Panipat. This business has slowed down in Panipat, once famous for acrylic blankets. Now the business of mink blankets and blanket quilts has increased. The acrylic blanket business of Panipat has almost shrunk. The business of acrylic blankets worth Rs 2,000 crore has come down to just 50 crores. Due to this the cost of production of acrylic blanket is high.
In the last 15 years, 225 big industries of acrylic blanket have been closed, only 25 industries producing this blanket are left. The rest began to produce mink and polar blankets instead of acrylics. At present, 80 tonnes of goods are being produced daily in 100 mink blanket industries in Panipat. Entrepreneurs are bringing in modern machines from China to make mink blankets. Acrylic blanket traders are demanding from the government that special steps should be taken to promote this industry.
150 units of yarn manufacturing for acrylic blankets closed
When the industries of acrylic blanket were closed, 150 units of yarn manufacturing for its manufacture were also closed. Acrylic blanket entrepreneurs also stopped getting yarn. That’s why the business of Mink and Polar Blanket got a boost. The cost of production of acrylic blankets is higher than that of mink and polar blankets. One artisan has to be deployed on one machine. Acrylic blankets cost Rs 50-200, which can be worn only while Polar blankets can also be used as beds.
Blanket quilt business reached 760 crores
Blanket quilt trader Deepak Kumar said that the blanket industry has got relief from the new type of quilt. Most of the acrylic blanket manufacturers have changed their business during the last two years. Now they have started making quilts along with mink and polar blankets. This low-priced blanket quilt is priced low and starts from Rs.300 onwards. The fabric of the upper part of this quilt comes from China, while the inner part is made in Panipat only. The quilt business has reached about Rs 760 crore. In the last five years, 200 units of quilting have been opened. 10 to 15 containers of quilt top fabric are being imported daily from China.
On the verge of stopping the production of acrylic blankets
Once the identity of Panipat was acrylic blanket. Acrylic blankets were supplied across the country from Panipat. There was a business of acrylic blanket of more than two thousand crores but now this business has reduced to 50 crores. Entrepreneurs turned to mink and polar blankets. Now the very existence of acrylic blanket is in danger. – Suresh Gumber, Head Blanket Manufacturing Association
