Samsung Galaxy J4 Plus Review in English: Is this phone worth buying?

New Delhi
Samsung is constantly launching new smartphones to maintain its hold in the market. The South Korean company has launched its handsets in almost every price category in the Indian market. The company has recently introduced many new budget smartphones in the country. Talking about J series, the smartphones of this series come in budget price. Samsung Galaxy J4+ and Galaxy J6+ have been launched at a budget price. Samsung intends to challenge Xiaomi, which is ruling the budget category in the Indian market with these smartphones. We have used Samsung Galaxy J4+ for a few days. Let’s review it and know what are its advantages and disadvantages.

design
Talking about the design, this Samsung smartphone is quite tall. On the front, the phone is occupied by the Infinity Display. There’s no physical navigation or home button on the display. A little free space is available at the top and bottom of the display. The phone feels light in hand. The top bezel on the display houses the antenna band, LED light and the front camera and other sensors.
Talking about its body, its rear is made of polycarbonate, but it comes with a glass-like finish. There is no fingerprint sensor in the J4+. At the same time, the camera sensor and LED flash have been given in the middle on the top side on the rear. The Samsung branding can be seen below the camera module. The phone has the power button on the right side while the volume buttons are on the left. The SIM slot in the phone is also on the left edge.

Talking about the display, the handset has a 6-inch HD + Infinity Display, which is equipped with 2.5D curved glass. The screen experience is good for the price. Despite the IPS LCD panel, the colors of the text and pictures displayed in the phone are accurate and crisp. The viewing angle of the Galaxy J4+ screen is good and there is no problem in using the phone even in sunlight. Although a FullHD panel could be given in the phone. The screen is equipped with a blue light filter. Due to the long and big display, it is good to watch videos in the phone. But video streaming is limited to 720 pixels, which means that one should not expect much in terms of video quality from the Samsung Galaxy J4+. It is convenient to hold the phone with one hand.

performance and software
Samsung Galaxy J4+ is powered by 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor, 2GB RAM and 32GB inbuilt storage. The storage of the smartphone can be expanded up to 512 GB via microSD card. There are many other phones in the market for the price of Galaxy J4+ which come with better specifications.

We had no problem with multitasking and switching between apps on the Galaxy J4+. It only gets hot when playing a game like Subway Surfer. It hangs during the same games like PUBG. This device is for entry-level smartphone users. People who use smartphones for everything will not like this. Honor 9N, Redmi 6 Pro, Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 and Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 are better options than Galaxy J4+.

The fingerprint sensor given in the Samsung Galaxy J4+ also does not work properly and it refuses to unlock the phone at times. We missed the fingerprint sensor in the handset.

We liked the audio experience found in this Samsung phone. However, sometimes the music experience gets spoiled due to the position of the speaker. The smartphone has Dolby Atmos support and the sound is good with headphones. The audio from the loudspeaker is also fine. The smartphone comes with dual SIM and dual 4G VoLTE support. This means that users will be able to enjoy 4G on both the SIM cards simultaneously.

This Samsung phone has been given Samsung’s Experience 9.5 skin with Android 8.1 Oreo. Many apps come pre-installed in the phone, including apps like Bike Mode, Microsoft Suite, Amazon Shopping, and Game Launcher. The phone also has an app drawer, which means that all the apps will not be visible on the home screen at the same time. Overall, the performance of Galaxy J4+ is average.

camera
Samsung Galaxy J4+ sports a 13-megapixel single rear camera with LED flash and aperture F/1.9. Talking about the performance, the Galaxy J4+ camera responds slowly. The camera is equipped with Panorama, HDR and Pro mode. But there is a problem of shutter lag while taking pictures.

Photos taken in daylight come out bright with detailing. The colors in these also look fine. But the camera struggles in low light. Photos taken in the evening and indoors are blurred and the quality is very poor. Overall, the performance of the rear camera is average.

The 5 megapixel front camera that comes with aperture F / 2.2 comes with LED flash. Photos taken with the front camera are also not very good. Selfie colors look oversaturated in daylight.

Battery
Talking about the performance of Samsung Galaxy J4+ battery, it will be called average. Many other phones in this price range come with better battery performance. The handset does not support fast charging and it can take around 3 and a half hours to charge from 0 to full. With normal use, the phone lasts for a day on a single charge. The Pone has a power saving mode.

Buy or don’t buy?
Launched at Rs 10,990, Galaxy J4+ is currently available for purchase in the market for around Rs 10,000. The design of the handset is good and its specifications are also fine. But there are many other better options available in the market at this price. If you are going to buy a smartphone for the first time then this phone is for you. But if you are already using a smartphone then already options like Redmi Note 5, Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1, Honor 9N and Redmi 6 Pro are better options.
