Controversy erupts over the misrepresentation of the Vanniyar caste of the South in Tamil superstar Suriya’s OTT release Jai Bheem on November 2. A leader of Tamil Nadu’s political party PMK has announced a reward of one lakh rupees for attacking the film’s hero and Tamil cinema superstar Suriya. After this, security has been beefed up outside Surya’s house.
Sangam, an organization of Vanniyar caste, has sent a legal notice to the film makers. Demanded that all the people associated with the film should apologize. Also, give five crore rupees as compensation within a week. Tamil Nadu Police has registered an FIR against him under five non-bailable sections after Pattali Makkal Kauchi (PMK) district secretary Sitamalli Palanisamy announced Rs 1 lakh to the person who attacked Suriya.

First controversy – There are many scenes in the film, in which it is shown about the tribe of the community named Irula, the kind of torture they were subjected to in police custody.
Second controversy- In this one scene shows Agni Kundam on a calendar, which is a symbol of Vaniyars. The Vanniyar Samaj has lodged an objection on this. They claim that the makers deliberately kept the calendar.
Third Controversy – In the film, a character named Rajkannu is harassed by a policeman. The harasser in this scene is of Vanniyar caste. It is claimed that, the makers have deliberately shown him to belong to this community.
who is surya
Born on July 23, 1975, Saravanan Shivakumar, who later changed his name to Surya. He is an actor, producer, TV presenter. He started his career with the 1997 film Nerukku Ner. Suriya’s first commercial hit was Kakha Kakha, which came in 2003. Suriya is one of the highest paid actors in the Tamil film industry. He also runs his own production house named 2D Entertainment. Surya runs a foundation called Agaram Foundation. Its motive is to provide education to the children of rural society.

Reacting to the matter, VCK party chief Thol Thirumavalvan said, “Whenever the PMK starts losing its political base, it creates such controversies. By threatening those people are not scaring Surya, it is also a threat to democracy and the Constitution. All democratic forces in Tamil Nadu are opposing PMK. Police should take strict action against such anti-social activities.
PMK has claimed that ‘Jai Bhim’ has caused a lot of damage to the image of his party. Ever since the controversy started regarding the film, Suriya had appealed not to do politics on it. Amidst this controversy, Surya is getting a lot of support on social media.
