Hyundai Verna and Honda City rival Skoda Slavia Breaks Cover in India

New Delhi, Auto Desk. Skoda India on Thursday launched the Slavia mid-size sedan to rival the Honda City and Hyundai Verna. The stylish and sharp looking mid-size sedan has been teased twice by the Czech automaker ahead of its global debut on Thursday. However, the company has not yet announced the price of the sedan.

For information, let us tell you that the Slavia sedan has been introduced as part of the company’s strategy for the Indian market by 2030. Slavia is manufactured in India with a focus on domestic customers. The automaker also expects to capture five per cent market share in India with the help of Kushak and New Slavia. With the Slavia, Skoda Auto India aims to capture a major share in the premium sedan segment in the country. Skoda Auto claims that the Slavia will be able to attract the attention of young buyers in India.

Skoda Slavia Competition : There was speculation that the Slavia would replace the Skoda Rapid, which is another mid-sized sedan competing with the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna, Honda City etc. in India. However, the koda Slavia will be sold as an independent model rather than as a Rapid replacement. The Slavia comes with a bigger and more premium car than the Skoda Rapid.

Skoda Slavia Variants: The Skoda Slavia will be available in three different variant options. Also, it will be available in five different color options. Color options include Crystal Blue.

Skoda Slavia Design : In terms of design, the Skoda Slavia follows the carmaker’s contemporary styling philosophy. It gets the trademark Skoda butterfly grille with chrome embellished vertical slats, sculpted bonnet, sleek L-shaped LED projector headlamps with integrated LED daytime running lights, C-shaped split LED taillights and razor-sharp crystalline character lines across the body. It runs on dual-tone alloy wheels. The sedan seems to have taken inspiration from the coupes that are visible in its silhouette. It is claimed to draw inspiration from Bohemian crystals and Skoda’s DNA.

Skoda Slavia Engine & Transmission : The Skoda Slavia MQB is based on the A0 IN architecture, specially designed for the Indian market and derived from Volkswagen AG’s renowned MQB platform. The sedan gets 1.0-litre TSI petrol and 1.5-litre TSI petrol engines. The small three-cylinder petrol engine is capable of producing 113 bhp power and 175 Nm of torque. It is available with six speed manual and six speed automatic gearbox options. The large 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine generates 150 bhp power and 250 Nm torque. It is available with six-speed manual and seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox options.

Skoda Slavia Safety Features: Skoda Slavia comes with a host of safety features. It gets six airbags, ISOFIX, TPMS, hill hold control, ABS with EBD, ESC etc.
