The list of FAQs released by the Ministry of Information Technology

The Information Technology Ministry on Monday issued a frequently asked questions (FAQ) regarding guidelines for intermediate institutions. It aims to create a better understanding among Internet and social media users of the goals and provisions of the new rules. Releasing the FAQ, Electronics and Information Technology Minister Rajiv Chandrashekhar said that the Internet should be open, secure and reliable for the users. He said that cyberspace cannot be a place where any kind of crime can take refuge.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs) include questions about which people want to know the most about the rules. This will make it easier for users to understand the norms of internet and social media.

Government of India has implemented new IT rules this year

The Indian government introduced new IT intermediary rules earlier this year. Its main objective is to bring more accountability to all the big tech companies like Twitter and Facebook. As per the rules, social media platforms are required to remove any content from the authorities within 36 hours after it has raised objections. Along with this, there is also a need to establish a strong grievance redressal system with the deployment of the officer in the country.

Post to be removed within 24 hours after receiving the complaint

Social media companies are required to remove posts containing obscene or tampered photos within 24 hours of receiving a complaint. Major social media companies are also required to submit compliance reports on a monthly basis. In this, they will have to give information about the complaints received and the steps taken to redress them. Major social media companies include entities that have more than 5 million users.
