KPS Malhotra, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Intelligence Fusion and Strategic (IFSO), Cyber Crime Unit, said that recently a person living in Delhi had complained to the Cyber Crime Unit about his WhatsApp being hacked. The victim told that after hacking his WhatsApp, someone has started asking for money in the name of help by sending messages to his acquaintances. The victim told that when his acquaintances called him and asked about the problem, he came to know about it. The accused broke into the victim’s contact list after hacking WhatsApp. After this, calling himself upset, he started asking for help by SMS or WhatsApp. The police immediately registered a case and started searching for the accused. During the investigation, the police came to know that the fraud is being done from Delhi and Bangalore. The team of Inspector Bhanu Pratap, Vijay Gehlot and others nabbed one of the accused from Mohan Garden area of Delhi. During interrogation, the accused confessed to cheating.

During the interrogation of the police, the accused told that he used to send the link to anyone on SMS or WhatsApp. As soon as someone clicked on it, his mobile would get hacked. The accused used to copy the contact list of his mobile with special software and send a message of help to him. The accused himself used to become a victim and also gave his account by seeking help from the people. People used to help the accused considering him as a victim. On the other hand, the accused themselves used to become sellers of seeds by creating demand for herbal seeds. People were duped in the name of investing in it. On the other hand, on social media, they were cheated by becoming girlfriends or boyfriends. The gang of the accused consists of 10 to 12 people.
Most Nigerians stay here even after their visa expires, action is being taken…
Morris had been living in India for the past several years. The accused had come to India on a tourist visa. But even after the visa expired in 2018, the accused was living here illegally in India. Its gang members were living in Uttam Nagar and Mohan Garden areas. Now the police has started investigating such foreign nationals. The police is taking action against the landlords who have kept the accused at their homes even after the expiry of their visas. The police have also registered a case against Morris’s landlord under various sections.
